Located in Mystic Side, by the banks of the Mystic River, Everett was part of Charlestown, an area owned by the Massachusetts Bay Company. The land in Mystic Side was first settled in 1643 by a lay preacher called William Sargent. Previously the land was inhabited by the Pawtucket tribe of Indians.
The first town established in Mystic Side was called Malden, the area now known as Everett however did not become seperate from Malden until 1870, after the Civil War. The town was named Everett in honour of Edward Everett. In 1870 the town had a population of 2200 and 414 dwellings.
In 1891 the popualtion was such that Everett officialy became the city of Everett, the population at this time being 46,788.
