Congressman Terry Everett was born in Dothan on February 15, 1937. Terry served in the Air Force Intelligence in Germany in the 1950s before beginning a career in journalism at The Dothan Eagle. Over the next thirty years he progressed from editor to publisher to owner of newspapers. Currently he remains the owner and president of The Union Springs Herald.

Terry began his challenge for Congress in 1992. Defeating State Treasurer George Wallace, Jr., son of the former governor and presidential candidate, for the Alabama seat. He lives in Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama, with his wife, Barbara.
